THE DOCTOR'S Title

A Guide to Classic Who references in New Who and the Doctor. 

The Doctor isn't a name, it's a title, but is the Doctor really a Doctor and if so a Doctor of what?

In "The Armageddon Factor" the Time Lord Drax confirms that the Doctor actually does have a Doctorate. 

Doctor of Medicine

• The First (in "An Unearthly Child" & "Marco Polo") and Fourth Doctors ("The Armageddon Factor") denied being a Doctor of Medicine and in "Ark in Space" the Fourth Doctor claimed his doctorate was honorary.
• Graduated in Medicine in Glasgow, 1888 (According to the Second Doctor in "The Moonbase.")

Doctor of All Things

• Claims "practically everything" in "Spearhead in Space" (first Third Doctor story.)
• "Doctor of many things" according to the Fifth Doctor ("Four to Doomsday.")
