Viewing order:

References:

[OLD] - Things that first appeared in the classic series of Doctor Who (or the film.)  Episode List.

For context, the following are also covered:
[1ST] -  The first appearance of things in Doctor Who and related shows.
[NEW] - Things that first appeared previously in the new series of Doctor Who.
[SJA] - Things that first appeared in Sarah Jane Adventures.

Ongoing References:

  • [NEW] The Slitheen (Raxacoricofallapatorians) - This race first appeared in the Doctor Who episodes "Aliens of London"/"World War Three" and one member later appeared in "Boomtown."  All the ones we've seen have been from the Slitheen which is why they are usually called "The Slitheen."  They previously appeared in the The Sarah Jane Adventures episodes "Revenge of the Slitheen" parts one and two.

From this episode:

  • [OLD]  Gorgon - The Second Doctor and Zoe encountered the Gorgon Medusa in the Land of Fiction in "The Mind Robbers" (Season 6).  As it was in the Land of Fiction it wasn't a real Gorgon, but rather a manifestation of the Greek myth.  The events Maria describes occured in the The Sarah Jane Adventures episodes "Eye of the Gorgon" parts one and two.

  • [TW]  Star Poet - The Arcateenians (aka Arcans) from Arcateen V, were seen in Torchwood where they weren't always as benevolent and Maria saw Sarah Jane with one with one in "Invasion of the Bane."

  • [OLD] "Sarah Jane used to fly around space with this guy?" - Obviously a reference to her time with the Third and Fourth Doctor.

  • [OLD]  The Doctor - If you need this one explained, I'm not sure why you're here,

  • [SJA]  Alternate realities - A reference to the events of the The Sarah Jane Adventures "Whatever Happened to Sarah Jane?" parts one and two.

  • [1ST]  Kalazian lights - First mention of these meteorite story.

  • [OLD]  UNIT - Was a United Nations military branch which defended Earth against alien and other threats.  Sarah Jane was a journalist who infiltrated UNIT and began to work with "John Smith," UNIT's unpaid scientist adviser.  She infiltrated UNIT in the Third Doctor story "The Time Warrior" (Season 11) and last appeared with them in the Fourth Doctor story "Seeds of Doom" (Season 13).

  • [OLD]  UNIT dating - A problem from the classic series.

  • [1ST]  Pharos Parascience Institute - First mention of this institute. The Pharos Project, however, appeared in the Fourth Doctor story "Logopolis" as an Earth attempt to contact alien life in the 80s, decades before the Institute opened.  It's not clear if the two are related.

  • [1ST]  Xylok - First mention of one of these.
