References

[OLD] - Things that first appeared in the classic series (or the film.)  Episode List.

For context, the following are also covered:
[1ST] -  The first appearance of things in Doctor Who series.
[NEW] - Things that first appeared previously in the new series.

Ongoing References...

  • [NEW]  Bill Potts - The Doctor's student and new companion ever since "The Pilot" (Doctor Who (2005) Series 10)

  • [OLD]  The TARDIS - The Doctor's time and space travel vehicle.  TARDIS stands for Time And Relative Dimension(s) In Space.  Like a lot of Time Lord technology, it is "bigger on the inside."  The Doctor stole his Tardis when fleeing Gallifrey.  It is an older model ("Type 40") and unreliable, often ending up in the wrong location and the chameleon circuit - designed to make the Tardis appear inconspicuous in any surroundings it appears has failed so it always appears as a police telephone box from 1960s England.

  • [OLD]  The Doctor - The central character of both series of Doctor Who.  This is the Twelfth Doctor, the thirteenth face he's had.

  • [OLD]  Time Lord - The time traveling ruling elite of Gallifrey.

  • [OLD]  Regeneration - Regeneration is a way that Time Lords cheat death by changing form (or just do it for a change).   He regenerated a number of times in classic Doctor Who (1963) and new Doctor Who (2005) and other Time Lords have been shown regenerating.

  • [OLD]  Sonic Screwdriver - A sonic device first used by the Second Doctor, and used in various forms until early in the life of the Fifth Doctor.  The Seventh had one near the end of his life and one was used by successive Doctors.  It has repeatedly been noted to have a problem with wood.

  • [NEW]  Nardole - River Song's assistant in the  "The Husbands of River Song" (Doctor Who (2005) 2015 Christmas Special).  His head was removed and used by the robot body of the Hydroflax.  When he appeared again in "The Return of  Doctor Mysterio" (Doctor Who (2005) 2016 Christmas Special). as the Doctor's new companion, Nardole noted:  "You cut me out of Hydroflax because you were worried you'd be lonely."  "The Pilot" (Doctor Who (2005) Series 10) suggests he now has a robot body.

  • [NEW]  The Vault - Has appeared or been mentioned ever since  "The Pilot" (Doctor Who (2005) Series 10).  The markings on it appear to be similar to High Gallifreyan.

This episode...

  • [OLD]  Sleep & the Doctor - It was suggested in novelisation of "The Highlanders" (Doctor Who (1963) Season 4) that the Doctor only needed on hour sleep a night.  The extras "Night & the Doctor" (Doctor Who (2005) series 6) expand upon this, showing what the Doctor does while Amy and Rory sleep, and the newly regenerated Doctor makes further claims in "Deep Breath" (Doctor Who (2005) Series 8).  He has, rarely, been shown sleeping, usually immediately post-regeneration as part of recovery or when drugged or otherwise forced.  The Fourth Doctor claimed "Sleep is for tortoises" in "The Talons of Weng-Chiang" (Doctor Who (1963) Season 14).

  • [NEW]  Harriet Jones - Yes, we know who she: a character who first appeared in "Aliens in London"/"World War Three"(Doctor Who 2005) Series 1) as the MP for Flydale North, ascending to Prime Minister, a role she holds in "The Christmas Invasion" (Doctor Who (2005) 2005 Christmas Special).  The events of that episode leads to her fall from grace, although she does return as the ex-PM in "Army of Ghosts"/"Doomsday" (Doctor Who (2005) Series 4).

  • [OLD]  Voc Bot - A class of Kaldor sandminer robots that appeared in "The Robots of Death" (Doctor Who (1963) Season 14).  The three classes of robot in that episode were the mute D-class Dum Bots, the speech-capable V-class Voc Bots and the single leader robot SV-class Super Voc Bot.  The specifics of Klarj Neon Death Voc Bots are unclear.

  • [1ST]  Dryad Lice - First appearance of these, probably alien, creatures.
