DW 10-11: World Enough and Time

  • [OLD]  The TARDIS - The Doctor's time and space travel vehicle.  TARDIS stands for Time And Relative Dimension(s) In Space.  Like a lot of Time Lord technology, it is "bigger on the inside."  The Doctor stole his Tardis when fleeing Gallifrey.  It is an older model ("Type 40") and unreliable, often ending up in the wrong location and the chameleon circuit - designed to make the Tardis appear inconspicuous in any surroundings it appears has failed so it always appears as a police telephone box from 1960s England.  You may think of it as the Doctor's capsule.

  • [OLD]  The Doctor - The central character of both series of Doctor Who.  This is the Twelfth Doctor, the thirteenth face he's had.  Because it comes up a couple once in this episode: he's an alien (from the planet Gallifrey).

  • [OLD]  Regenerative ability - Regeneration is a way that Time Lords cheat death by changing form (or just do it for a change).   He regenerated a number of times in classic Doctor Who (1963) and new Doctor Who (2005) and other Time Lords have been shown regenerating.  While this is presumably the beginning of the regeneration of the Twelfth Doctor to the Thirteen, although, false starts have been shown a number of times, including the Tenth Doctor "The Stolen Earth" (Doctor Who (2005) Series 4), the Eleventh ("The Impossible Astronaut" & "The Wedding of River Song" (Doctor Who (2005) Series 6) and even the Twelfth Doctor: "The Lie of the Land" (Doctor Who (2005) Series 10).

  • [OLD] Missy - The name used by the current body of the Master, the Doctor's childhood friend and mortal enemy.   After yet another attempt was made to execute her, she was consigned to the Quantum Fold Chamber (shown in flashback in Extremis) and is claiming to now be trying to be good.  She has appeared (usually as a male character) in old Who [Foes: The Master] and new.


  • [NEW]  Nardole - River Song's assistant in the  "The Husbands of River Song" (Doctor Who (2005) 2015 Christmas Special).  In that episode is head was removed and used by the robot body of the Hydroflax.  In his second appearance, "The Return of  Doctor Mysterio" (Doctor Who (2005) 2016 Christmas Special), Nardole noted:  "You cut me out of Hydroflax because you were worried you'd be lonely."  "The Pilot" (Doctor Who (2005) Series 10) suggests he now has some robot parts, although in "The Pyramid at the End of the World" (Doctor Who (2005) Series 10) that he is close enough to human.

  • [NEW]  Blue-skinned aliens - Regularly appeared in new Who since "The End of the World" (Doctor Who (2005) Series 1).

  • [OLD]  Time Lords - The time traveling ruling elite of Gallifrey.  Female members are regularly called "Time Ladies."



  • [OLD]  Sonic Screwdriver - A sonic device first used by the Second Doctor, and used in various forms until early in the life of the Fifth Doctor.  The Seventh had one near the end of his life and one was used by successive Doctors.  

  • [OLD]  Cybermen - Long term enemy of the Doctor in the old series [See Foes: Cybermen] and the new.  An advantage of having the Monks on Earth is that we know the Cybermen will not be returning any time soon.

  • [OLD]  "Doctor Who" - A name used twice previously for the Doctor within the universe of the show, once by WOTAN in "The War Machines" (Doctor Who (1963) Season 3) and one a website in "Rose" (Doctor Who (2005) Series 1).  Outside the show (including in the credits) the name is used more often.  The original pitch for the show was for the Doctor to be amnesiac human scientist from the future, his called "Dr Who" by those who accompanied him due to him not knowing his real name.


  • [NEW]  The Doctor & Master's childhood - Show very briefly.







  • [OLD]  Mondas -  The twin planet of Earth from the other side of the sun (until it left the solar system - returning in "The Tenth Planet" (Doctor Who (1963) Season 4)"). It is the home planet of the humans who became Cybermen.




  • [OLD]  Mondasian Cybermen -  Obviously, Cybermen from Mondas.  All the Cybermen in the classic series were Mondasian Cybermen.  The new series featured Cybermen ("Cybus Cybermen") from an alternative universe's Earth rather than Mondas (from "Rise of the Cybermen" (Doctor Who (2005) Series 3) to "The Pandorica Opens" (Doctor Who (2005) Series 5).  The Cybermen from since then have had features of both types.
